How To Read Piano Music And Play A Musical Composition

For anyone who intends to learn how to play the piano, the first step towards achieving this is to know very well how to read piano music. If you have already seen a musical piece or composition, you at least have an idea of what a piano piece looks like. This is what you have to learn to read in order to play the music right on the piano.

Learning how to read piano music takes a lot of practice and familiarization. Once you are familiar with the notes and their positions, you will be able to play music. The very first step is to learn the different notes. As long as you know the English alphabet, you will find this part of the lesson very easy because the musical notes only go from A to G. So that is A, B, C, D, E, F and G.

These are referred to as the natural notes and they correspond to the white keys of the piano. The black keys of the piano are referred to as the sharps and flats. There are only a total of 12 notes if you combine the natural notes and the sharps and flats. These actually repeat over and over on the piano which is referred to as octaves.

In a musical composition, you will see the treble staff and the bass staff. Most piano compositions are written on the staffs which consist of five lines and four spaces. The treble staff is being played by the right hand and the bass staff, by the left hand. In the piano, the treble staff and the bass staff are joined together. You will find the notes that you have to play on the piano along the lines and spaces of each staff.

Each line and space actually corresponds to a piano key. In the treble staff, the lines corresponds these notes E, G, B, D and E; the spaces correspond to the following notes F, A, C and E. In the bass staff, the lines corresponds to these notes G, B, D, F and A; while the spaces corresponds to A, C, E and G. In order to learn how to read piano music, you must familiarize yourself with these notes and their respective positions on the treble staff and bass staff.

Learning the basics is the start of the entire learning process. It takes a lot of practice and some personal technique. As long as you know the notes and how to read piano music, you can position your hands on the piano keyboard and start playing a simple tune. Do not overwhelm yourself with the technicalities; you will discover these as you go along and as you become more and more comfortable with playing the piano.

Music for licensing will safeguard your composition

Composing music needs requisite talents and not each one of us is born with it. So people who are really talented are also special people in their own creative way. Such people should get proper exposure so that they are able to showcase their talent to the world and the public and gain a name in their chosen field. The best way to get noticed by the established musicians and other heads of the musical industry is to get the music for licensing before publicizing it in public.

Whether you have the talent for instrumental music or other form of music, the best people who can help you with publicizing your composition are those who are associated with the music licensing companies. They offer the budding artists with the best possible exposure and great opportunities in terms of music.

Once your music has been copyrighted, it is protected from such fraudsters and cheaters. Now, if anyone happens to cheat you of your original creation, you can always take legal actions against that person with the help of this copyright document and a representative lawyer.

These companies are there to guide the budding new talents of the musical industry to gain a foot hold in the industry and also earn a living out of playing music. If music is your passion, then you must make sure that it is copyrighted with the help of music for licensing before you openly perform with it. This will make sure that your compositions are safe from the clasps of cheaters and fraudsters who are forever ready to pounce on the newcomers so that they can grab the instrumental music composition and market them as their own creation.

Further, if you wish to make a name for yourself in the music industry, apart from talents you must maintain the originality in your composition. You must also have the right kind of contacts in the industry to make the right impression. All these are well taken care of by the music licensing companies on behalf of the talented musicians.

If you compose instrumental music, these companies will forward your musical piece to various producers on the lookout for original creations that they can use in the commercials or movies. If they like what you created, you can be lucky to get a break under the producer’s banner. All these aspects are of course taken care of by the music licensing companies.

Criss Evan, Software Developer by profession is also a passionate music lover. So he has good knowledge on instrumental music. For more formation on music for licensing , he recommends to visit http://www.musicdealers.com/.

Music Mixing Techniques and Music Mixing Tips

I recently realized that I did not know the music mixing techniques I thought I did and when I first started music production I learnt the hard way. I searched about for music production tips and music mixing online, during this time I found many opposing ideas that left me even more confused.

I am glad I did learn in the end though as I always thought there was something I was missing. I was right about that of course but I was looking in the wrong area; I thought it was with my song writing ability but the truth was I did know how to produce music. Here are a music mixing tips to consider and help you when you are mixing and recording music.

Write and record before doing any mixing – Before you start mixing make sure that the whole track is recorded (by you or someone else). This is rule number one on how to produce music. You cannot start to mix a track before it is finished as that would be like trying to decorate the insides of a house when the roof is not on yet. If you do start to mix a track before it is has finished being written it will never be finished because when you are writing you need to consider certain things and when mixing you consider different things. These two conflicting priorities will pull you right and left. If you are/have been doing this there is a good chance you are trying to use effects to mask a poorly written song or you need to learn and understand some basic music theory to pave a solid path forward. It is worth mentioning that you could be in need of some extra music production tips if you are having these problems when you do have a finished track

Always fix any problems with what has been recorded at the time of recording – If you are recording something or have been given a track from someone and you can hear that there is a problem somewhere in the track it is very important that this problem is rectified before going into the mixing process. It is important to set solid and clear boundaries between recording and mixing, I would say this is one of the golden rules that sits highly on the music production tips list. If you have just recorded a guitar part and something is not sitting quite right, maybe a note clash or something drops out of time briefly, fix it instantly. Either find a note that does not clash or re-record that specific bar around or in between the rest which works. Do not leaving it till the mix.

Arrange your environment before you start – Before you sit down and start to mix a track it is important to get everything arms reach and make sure you have everything needed out and close to hand. This may not be one of the most helpful music mixing techniques but it is important for concentration. It is no good if you have to keep getting up and going through cupboards looking for specific boxes or needing to use something only to find that you do not have the right cable or batteries.

Another thing to consider is R.S.I, this is very common if you are working on the computer and it is important to make certain adjustments to reduce the chances of this.

There are many other music mixing tips to consider if you are interested in helping yourself understand how to produce music. I believe that if anyone ever wants to improve their music mixing techniques they should take a look at THIS website. It could be the case that you are stuck and do not know what to do next or it could be you are wanting to learn more skills and ‘tricks of the trade’, either way you should take a look.

Sandstorm: Darude’s Greatest Contribution to the Techno Music Industry

Few songs can make people feel energized, excited, anxious, powerful, breathless, and edgy all at the same time. Such an explosive musical masterpiece as Darude’s 1999 song, “Sandstorm,” only comes around every few years. Perfect for clubs and discos around the world, “Sandstorm” has been a hit for years. And with that kind of techno-inspired genius, it’s no wonder this song has become so successful.

From its roots in Finland clubs by DJ Darude – eventually produced professionally by 16 Inch Records and released in November of 1999 – “Sandstorm” took the country by storm (no pun intended). Due to its raving national success, the recording company took “Sandstorm” global, releasing it to a broader European audience in 2000. It also gained popularity there, almost instantaneously becoming a worldwide hit in the first year of the new millennium.

With the entrancing first minute of the song, listeners are slowly introduced to a techno-venture, as the sound of cymbals clashing grows closer and more menacing with each passing beat. Rhythmatic techno beats begin softly in the distance and grow louder and more powerful until an explosion of techno beats take over the initial sensitive sequence of the song.

It is a masterfully-woven, yet heart-racing collection of beats that go from high speed trance to stuttering, cautious ticks of a beat, and right back to the unending assimilation of techno choruses that keep the song flowing faster than a raging hurricane.

The middle of the extended version (the radio edit is approximately 3:30, the longer version is over seven minutes) contains a brief pause in the flow of the beats, with just the occasional ominous cymbal once again clattering far off in the distance. The entire feel of the song gives the listener the feeling of the music coming from some far away location, not in the close proximity of their ears.

Furthermore, this song was so popular all over the world that it managed to land in some prestigious dancing-based games, such as DDRMAX Dance Dance Revolution. Despite it’s declining popularity since its first release over a decade ago, it has received top awards from countries such as Germany, Australia and the US. It is still often played today during various sporting events to encourage excitement amongst the crowds for the home team.

Music Software – Computer Music Resources

When choosing music software from the array of computer music resources available there are two programs that stand out and have become the industry standard.

These are Cubase and cakewalk. I prefer Cubase but this is because I have always used Cubase and before Cubase it was pro24, things have come along way since pro24 I can tell you.

Either of these music software programs will be more than enough for any music recording project, it is important to realise though that the results using this software will only be as good as the soundcard you have installed on your system.

The soundcard is the hub of your recording setup.

You need to check the spec of any soundcard you are thinking of using.

There are a lot to choose from as the computer music resources are ever growing.

You will be looking for a soundcard that has a very low noise to signal ratio and a full band width 20hz-20khz.
A sampling rate of 44.1 or greater and 16 bit or greater.

Also you want to consider how many channels you will need to record at the same time, many will only allow two.

The PC minimum spec should be Pentium 4 1500ghz 512mb ram the harddrive needs to spin at 7200rpm and be at least 80 gig.

A combination of these components will give you a recording system that is capable of producing world class results.

There are is also an array of music software plugins available to provide effects and processing.

Computer music resources are now fairly low cost so you can produce recordings that a few years ago would have cost tens of thousands of pounds.

See my article on recording tips and methods for more detailed information on how to use your medium cost computer to create world class recordings.

Chris Adams has been making music 30 years and has had 12 number ones in various download charts including amazon.com and mp3.com.

A Brief History Of Trance Music

Music production by-in-large has always been a coupling of arrangement and mixing of tracks once the arrangement was complete. With the emergence of synthesizers; or “synthes”, throughout the 1970’s and 80’s sounds once thought unattainable using physical instruments became possible. Despite this innovation, early producers used synthes to manipulate pre-recorded tracks rather than basing their music on the sounds they could produce on their own. In the late 1970’s French composer Jean Michel Jarre changed this practice when he used tracks for his album Oxygene created solely by a synth and thus the “electronica” sound was born. The new sound which had garnered great praise from the European musicians would gain U.S. popularity and yet another incarnation with the “new wave” movement of the 1980’s. Artist like Gary Numan, and Devo brought their own styles the genre.

While the sound had evolved steadily over two decades there was still a co-dependency between man and machine made music. This would transition in the early 90’s when “trance” music explode onto the world stage via the Germany club scene. A hybrid of house and techno, trance provided bands like The Disco Biscuits an audience for their music thought to be a fad. However, the success of the genre, now vastly instrumental, limited production to a heavily equip studio. The new millennium would see this problem expelled, as music once again met technology. The innovations of the home computer; and music creation software, took production out of the studio.

With all of the software available the pioneer has to be Ableton. Started in 1999; based in Trance birthplace Germany, Ableton released their first version Ableton Live in 2001. The software is unique as it works for traditional studio production but has Ableton live templates the can be utilized during a live show as well. Ableton live templates create the flexibility for DJ’s and artist to adjust their playlist to the venue and the minimal equipment needed favours mobility. Now on version 8, the company continues to flourish.

From the synthesizer to the Ableton live templates it appears trance music is here to stay!

Mark is a avid DJ who loves to remix and make tracks with various music loop Sample Packs and ableton live templates. Mark works for DMS in the UK who sell various Acapella MIDI Files and audio samples. Click for more information and free DJ samples on the DMS site.
