Organic Music

The word “organic” is used quite a bit these days. We hear it in business as organic growth and now we hear it with regard to music recording and podcasting. The term “organic” has come to refer to something that is natural, authentic, and has core value. For example, the organic growth in business refers to true expansion in the central core of the company not inflated increases from outside venues or other sources.

According to the online urban dictionary, organic music is music that has a core sound and tone that is natural by use of acoustic instruments and vocals. This definition went on to elaborate about organic music resonating positive vibes or something to that effect. As musicians, the music industry cautions us to be “more organic.” However, in this digital age, recording music in a home studio on a PC via Audacity or Adobe Audition by its very definition is digital. The sound is stored in a system of ones and zeros. Musicians can record short segments and easily repeat these sections by copying and pasting multiple times. Drums can be manufactured on keyboards or can be made completely inside a computer by using software. Most indie musicians use electronic keyboards, drum machines, and software for instrumentation when recording. These resonating vibrations though, are merely recreations from a computer.

Indie musicians are branching out into selling their music to film and television (i.e. sync licensing or synchronization). This leads to wondering how modern indie recording musicians can obtain an organic music texture?

Quantizing is a digital software adjustment that can move beats to equal other beats.

So if a beat is slightly off, it can be snapped perfectly into place. The same can be used for vocals that are slightly flat or sharp by adjusting the pitch. Anyone doing their own recording and mixing has their own techniques for editing and layering tracks. However, something that I noticed early on with quantizing beats in my instruments was when listening back, some instrumental sounds were canceled out. The aural threshold of human hearing is limited, so by aligning every single instrument to an exact beat meant that the listener wasn’t hearing everything that was intended. This aural phenomenon means that only a few sounds can exist in the same space at the same time. I also noticed that if two instruments had similar timbres or tones, one of them might be canceled out aurally.

Maybe this organic music direction has a slightly different meaning? Maybe it means less perfect?

Let’s compare this to a symphony orchestra or choir where you have multiple musicians playing together at the same time. The orchestra has a thick acoustic sound which fulfills the definition organic music. If all the musicians are playing at the same time how can we hear the various instruments? There are a few factors that make this possible. The musicians are playing at the same time, but no two people can place precisely note for note at the exact time like a computer can. This fraction of a millisecond difference when each musician puts their bow to the string can be multiplied by all the musicians playing. This produces a thickness to the sound texture of orchestras and choirs.

Another reason for being able to hear the various instruments is due to the timbre of the individual instruments or choir voices. No two violins or voices have the exact same tone or vibrato. This variance allows human hearing to differentiate between sounds.

An additional reason for variance is the use of multiple ranges of notes. Orchestras have first and second violins, violas, cellos, and multitude of other instruments playing different notes in different octaves.

The last reason is where the musicians reside in the linear plane of hearing. For example, violins are heard more to the left, cellos basses are heard more to the right, and woodwinds are more central. This is a result of where they are seated in the orchestra during a performance and where a listener would commonly hear them from the audience.

Knowing this information can be vital in providing a more organic sound to recordings.

Instrumentation- If you are using more than one type of the same instruments like guitars from a keyboard or digital strings, try using completely two different textures. You can even adjust one to be more treble sounding than the other. If you are adding a digital woodwind or flute of some type, add in the vibrato. If you are using multiple instruments, use different octave ranges and divergent notes within the chord structure of the song.

Panning – Use the pan feature and place instruments left center, another center, another right center, etc. This allows the listener to hear the individual instruments. If you are a band but want to achieve a chamber orchestra sound, place the orchestra how you would hear them live– violins on the left, viola left center, cello/bass more to the right. Place these instruments more to the back by using reverb while placing your guitar, bass, and vocals more up front.

Quantizing – By all means, quantize your rhythm and drums and a few of the instruments. In other cases, play the instruments all the way through the song and allow for that millisecond variance, as if multiple musicians were playing at the same time.

Timbres – Add a real voice, real percussion, or real other instrument along with your recording. If you are using the digital ah’s in a song from a keyboard, get a real person to sing along with them. Adding in live actual sounds goes along way to making the recording more organic.

All the Way Through – I will use quantization to make drum tracks or basic percussion tracks and bass tracks. The rest I play live, all the way through. It is a challenge to do this and requires practice. The end result is that you can achieve a sound of multiple musicians even if you are recording by yourself.

“Music is a form of emotional communication, and when an instrument is played by a skilled performer, it can conduct that emotion from composer, through performer to listener. But when machines are allowed to have too much influence, then that emotional connection is broken. Yes, the notes, rhythms and timbres remain, but the subtleties that make music truly involving are lost. Non-organic music does often start with good DNA (to continue the analogy), but then it goes through the machine process and is liberally treated with pesticides (quantization) before being packaged and sold to the public.” Reference – Audio Masterclass

Significance Of Music History Explained

Learning history of any subject may seem dull and boring, but nevertheless it is very important for the students. The importance of music should be taught to kids from an early age, and this has been validated and supported by neurological analysis of children, who were exposed to music before the age of four. Music fathoms expression in most primordial forms. Children simply enjoy making peculiar noises and sounds. If while teaching history, they are taught how to make musical sounds, what produces good sounds and how to recognize a good sound, then the significance behind learning music could be adequately built up in them.

Music has the power to improve other subjects in school. A music class could act upon as an enhancement class. Apart from that, reading music really helps in familiarizing the students to letters, which in turn, helps them to build up a habit of reading. With every type of music such as baroque, romantic, classical etc. having their own local and historical characteristics, teaching music history throws up information regarding composers, lyricists, and singers from these genres.

With the electronic media making stamping its existence in every family, the students’ minds are often saturated with songs that even adults cannot interpret. Music history teaching often leads to learning songs with straightforward lyrics. There are several individuals who fail to appreciate the significance of teaching history of music to children. Worse still, they see no motive behind including music in a school curriculum.

However, majority of those possessing such an idea can’t deliberately understand living without music. Numerous administrators see music as some co-curricular activity, overlooking its critical ingredients. However, care needs to be taken to see that these classes don’t end up being long lectures with bored eyed students yawning. Make it pleasant with inter spread games and exciting quizzes.

Teaching Music History in Music Education classes needn’t be always boring. It can be made very exciting and fun. To know more about how to teach music history in a simple and interesting manner, Click Here.

Music Therapy ? How Can Music Therapy Work?

Music therapy is a unique style of therapy, involving music to help overcome cognitive, emotional, social, and physical problems. It may be used to help promote overall health, manage stress, improve memory, help expression of feelings, reduce or eliminate pain, or support healing from physical problems or disorders.

This form of healing is done through a music therapist.  The practitioner makes an initial assessment of the client’s overall emotional and physical well-being. He or she also looks at the client’s level of social functioning, cognitive skills, and communication skills. After making these assessments, the therapist creates individual music sessions for the client.  These sessions can also include group music therapy. Activities could be listening to music, discussing lyrics, performing music, writing songs, and learning through music.

This approach to therapy has indeed been shown to help both children and adults of all age ranges. It helps those with developmental and learning disabilities surmount obstacles. It also can help those with Alzheimer’s disease and other age-related conditions recoup their memory.  In addition, those who have coped with drug abuse or who have suffered from brain injuries can benefit from music therapy.  People dealing with chronic or acute pain, including mothers giving birth, can also use music therapy to alleviate pain.

Music therapy is also sometimes used by hospitals to improve the mood of their patients or to counteract depression. Clinics also use music to help encourage patients to move during physical therapy, or to calm patients that need to be sedated or who need to rest.  It is also used in hospitals to reduce muscle tension and to help patients relax.

Even schools use music therapy to help children be more successful. For special education students, music therapy is sometimes included in the student’s Individualized Education Plan, or IEP.  Music therapy is sometimes used to help these children improve their communication skills or to strengthen their physical coordination, which helps them be more successful in general education classes.

The American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) has conducted a great deal of research into the effectiveness of music therapy.  There research has time after time shown the constructive effects of music therapy.

Achieve Serenity and Happiness – Buddhist Walking Meditation

If you want to experience serenity and happiness, Buddhist walking meditation is one path. It is achieved by bringing a moment to moment awareness (power of now) into your daily life. The walking meditation provides many benefits, takes only 15 to 20 minutes per day and is an easy 5-step process.

Benefits of walking meditation:

* Feeling sense of serenity and happiness
* Achieving a deeply relaxed state
* Naturally “letting go of thoughts” (of the past or future)
* Experiencing Law of Impermanence (all things rise and pass away – nothing permanent – (Anicca or Anitya in Sanskrit)
* Feeling compassion and loving-kindness for all sentient beings

Walking meditation instruction:

General note: Wear comfortable clothing and choose a location (a seashore, a park, a quite neighborhood, your backyard, etc. Allow about 15 – 20 minutes for walking meditation.)

1. Keep your eyes open and start ‘conscious breathing’ by breathing in through your nose and breathing out through you mouth. Be sure to make the breathing audible.

2. Start walking at your normal pace (you can walk in a circle – no beginning and ending or you can walk forward and come back). After a while you might naturally walk slowly. NOTE: There is no destination only the journey.

3. Observe your breathing and allow all thoughts to come about. You might notice how your mind takes you to the past (by remembering something from the past or by trying to re-write ‘history’) or takes to the future (planning something in the future, imagining, day dreaming, etc). It is important that you do not try to get rid of all your thoughts. Letting go is a natural process that occurs by simply bringing awareness to your breathing, and thus into the present moment.

You might experience both thoughts and your breathing, and so you are in the present and observing your mind at work.

4. After you finish you walking meditation you can stay still or even sit down on a bench and close your eyes.

5. As you feel deeply relaxed, conclude your meditation with the loving-kindness mantra – Metta in Sanskrit. This should be done from the depths of your heart.

Loving-kindness Mantra (Metta as shared by Lama Surya Das) May all beings be happy, content and fulfilled, May all beings be healed and whole, May all beings have whatever they want and need May all beings be protected from harm and free from fear, May all beings be awakened, liberated and free, May there be peace on earth and the entire universe. As you continue doing walking meditation daily, you will achieve serenity and happiness by bringing yourself to the present moment (power of now). By using loving-kindness mantra (Metta), you will start cultivating compassion towards all sentient beings. The 5 step processes will make a profound difference in your life.

May you be happy!

Medicine for the Soul CD Series Makes Meditation Accessible to Everyone

Tucson, AZ (PRWEB) September 15, 2006

Breathe and relax. Familiar words for those who have explored meditation. But meditation is not easy to attempt, let alone master. New age artist Dyan Garris introduces a soothing series of six CDs meant to help bring the positive effects of meditation to all by merely following one simple instruction: just listen.

Comprised of multi-layered, angelically channeled music, each CD is meant to build on each other as the listeners progress from one to the other. Though not necessary to follow each in a linear order, they offer the maximum healing effect when heard in progression.

Meditation is often seen as an effort, notes Dyan Garris. It should not or does it have to be a chore. Everyone has the ability to connect to a higher source. For beginners, these CDs guide the listener right through the process of meditation whereas seasoned students of meditation will find the music and journeys a refreshing change of pace.

Vibrational Attunement

There is a trend on the new age horizon called vibrational attunement. Since 1993, Dyan Garris has not only been at the front lines of the movement but leading the way. But what is it and how does it play into the Dyan Garris CD collection?

Vibrational attunement is a way of absorbing healing vibrations. It is a balancing of the mind, body and spirit that uses subliminal vibrations on a subconscious level to release trauma, patterns, and blocked energies in order to help people move forward on the path of positive awareness. It brings together the ethereal layers of someones energy field and balances them with the mind and body. In essence, this style attunes the listeners mind, body and spirit. Vibrational attunement works whether or not the listener is aware of the healing power of sound. Thats the style of the music and meditation series of CDs created by new age artist Dyan Garris.

This is not just relaxation music, explains Garris. This music and meditations work to change peoples lives. They open pathways for spiritual growth and transformation. It shifts and releases with the listener, making the journey truly personal so they can feel the sense of peace and healing needed in order to reconnect and find the balance they seek.

Medicine for the Soul

Traditional new age music is free form. However, Dyans brand of vibrational attunement actually has a melody and lyrics. Based on the ancient concept and power of sound healing, each CD is composed to relax and prepare (vibrationally attune) the listener.

Enjoying Healthy Relationships Through Yoga Meditation

We all know that the practice of yoga meditation can benefit us in, both the physical and the mental disciplines. And such practices have grown so vast that it has braved the test of time. A classic, so to speak. And healthy relationships through yoga meditation is achievable. And the practice of such does not only limit with meditations or flexibility, it also helps its practitioners in achieving a healthy relationship. As you practice yoga meditation, you learn how to respect your body. You learn the importance of being fit and enjoy its benefits. With this, one learns the importance of Respect, which is very vital in a healthy Relationship.

This word here is an important factor, an important key to the success of a relationship. With yoga meditation, one learns flexibility. First this term would only refer to the physical aspect. But later as the yoga meditation practitioner progresses, he slowly understands the meaning of his activity beyond its physical aspect alone. He learns that he can apply what he has learned not only in its exercise state but also in the life as well. Flexibility now becomes an applied character. So the practitioner now has a broader sense of understanding and is now capable of adjusting well, both in a crowd or in a relationship as well.

In here the yoga practitioner learns RESPECT! During the practice of yoga, one develops Mind Power! A key ingredient, to better equip a person in his/her journey through life. In here one learns how to cope, adjust and even know when to fight back in facing the challenges in life. In the relationships point of view, a yoga practitioner can apply the concept of Mind Power, by showing to his/her partner that he/she knows how to control his/her emotions, as well as the yoga practitioner knows when will be the proper time to react to a certain situation.

In the practice of yoga meditation, one learns the concept of fulfillment or shared happiness as a goal, and this can be learned through shared love and thoughtfulness.

All these are basic elements needed in a relationship. These are basic elements but vitally important as well. Imagine a relationship without thoughtfulness and shared love, it’s like a house built beside a riverbank. A relationship bound to be doomed. But a healthy relationship built on strong and sturdy grounds of shared love, thoughtfulness and respect is like a house built with strong foundations and elevated grounds. In here the yoga practitioner applies the concept of COMMITMENT! Balance is another factor taught in Yoga Meditation, which is very beneficial in a sound and healthy relationship. In here the practitioner knows how to weigh situations and decide wisely as well.

This concept lies in the aspect of “a balanced mind, leads to emotional and physical control as well.” Your level of Awareness also enhances. A yoga practitioner here begins proper control of his well being and his partner. As a result your partner’s level of Trust to you strengthens and thus you gain Respect and later Commitment begins. These three bonded together as one is a powerful foundation needed to build a strong and healthy relationship. These can all be learned in the practice of yoga.

Find an Addiction Center For Faster Recovery

Without intervention and treatment addiction can threaten the health and sanity of an addict. As addiction grows the addict’s life spins increasingly out of control. There are many specialized addiction centers that offer effective treatments to free the addict from a life of addiction.

A modern addiction center uses state of the art techniques and equipment to effect the fastest recovery for the patient. The recovery process includes both psychological and medical treatment. These centers use various therapies to help wean the patient off drugs and create a new sober life. After treatment many addicts are able to live the rest of their lives drug free.

Because addiction is such a powerful disease, relapse after treatment is always a danger. To help avoid relapse, these centers provide care services, which continue to monitor the patient’s behavior.

Addiction centers provide comprehensive services for the betterment of the addict. Many times, patients are enrolled in dual programs dealing with more than one addiction. Some patients suffer from severe mental and behavioral problems, and early treatment is necessary for a quicker recovery.

Psychological and medical treatments help the addict to have a more comfortable transition period. The centers have a supporting staff to help the patient recover with as much ease as possible. Counseling sessions also help the patient to perceive things in a healthier manner. Addiction centers make use of the latest techniques in therapy and analysis.

Often addicts may be embarrassed to enroll in an addiction center. Today, however, addiction is seen as a disease and not as a failure on the part of the addict. For many, addiction centers are the best way to improve an addict’s life.

Find the Best Christian Addiction Recovery Centers

The first step towards getting clean of addiction is for the addict to realize the need to stay away from the drugs or alcohol, whatever is the source of his addiction. But for him to do so, his family should show solidarity and support. Often, despair grips the family of an addict when they see their loved ones losing his way, taking to drugs and alcohol and often shuns him out of embarrassment or sometimes opt for violent intervention. But often it makes matters worse for the addict and might aggravate his addiction. It is the duty of the family to help him realize his mistake through love and compassion and then take him to a good Christian addiction recovery centre to get him clean.

Now, one question that might surface is, how do you choose among the various addiction recovery centers. For this, there are several factors that you need to consider. You should go through the list of professionals working at the center and see their records. You should also look for the relapse rate of these centers and opt for the one that has the minimum relapse rate. Also, you should decide whether you would be comfortable with an in-house treatment or in a more relaxed environment, like a garden. The type of therapy offered by the rehab center should also be taken into consideration. While some people may respond better to group therapies, other might require individual attention. Privacy is also a deciding factor while choosing your rehab facility. You should also look at the nature and extent of medical care available within the facility. Another important factor is the time of the rehabilitation program and whether the center provides continuing care even after you are clean, to make sure you stay away from alcohol and drugs for good.

Apart from these general considerations, a good Christian addiction recovery center should have a good church with a pastor where the inmates can pray and attend the sermons. These centers use the addict’s faith in God to probe into his inner self and see the light within and to understand the problems in his life that have led him to take the way of addiction. Once they cause is identified, one can try to solve the problems and thus get away from addiction permanently. A good Christian rehab center also performs readings of the bible with the belief that the teaching of the bible and the faith in God will strengthen the willpower of the person to get rid of his addition and transform the person from someone lost in the wilderness of life to one who is in complete control of his senses and can clearly see the light at the end of his path and leads a biblical and faith based life. Thus, as the goodness in the person is brought to the forefront, he experiences the divinity and realizes how this new life free from drugs is much better than the old one that he has been leading. This helps him to stay clean of drugs in future.

Just what to Examine for in a Drug Recovery and Substance Recovery Center

In today’s fast-changing and fast paced environment, many people pick up different types of conditions that originate from their inability to cope with the changes all around them. Unfortunately, some people manifest their inability to manage stress plus the difficulties of everyday living by falling into the lure of addiction.

Many people that are suffering from addiction are the ones who encounter unrestrainable behavior, that is frequently caused by depression and anxiety. By and large, these individuals are unaware of their addiction until it has altogether taken control over their lives.

You will discover numerous organizations that provide assistance and the necessary attention for those who are attempting to uncover a remedy for their addiction and depression. Addicts can rely on rehabilitation centers such as Drug Recovery Center to provide them an all natural recovery approach that won’t only allow them to encounter their individual painful emotions but in addition teach them the most effective ways to handle their own negative thoughts and behaviors.

It is essential for addicts to understand where their damaging thoughts and harmful habits are coming from. This is where most drug treatment centers differ. Some rehab centers focus mainly on the patients unfavorable behavior and do not offer more focus on exactly what actually brings about their depression and altered thinking.

The best treatment is the one that makes it possible for the recovering addicts to confront their suffering and convey their feelings. Ecstasy Addiction Center moves a step further by allowing the addicts to direct their strong feelings toward an even more resourceful approach.

By giving addicts the ability to convey themselves creatively, Drug Recovery Center successfully leads them to the best road to recovery. This alternative strategy to addiction recovery teaches addicts to assess their feelings and cope with their hardship by getting more in contact with their own senses.

There are 7 senses that evaluate data in a individuals environment, and these deliver equivalent signals to the brain. When addicts become more responsive to their senses (sight, smell, touch, taste, hearing, balance, and internal sensations), they gradually understand that they can’t feel their thoughts. They understand that their depression and damaging thought processes are nothing but physical sensations.

By paying close awareness of what they sense from their environment, addicts are able to trace the source of their stress. They learn that every time they fret, their own thoughts send alerts to their brain. It is actually not the thought that they are feeling but their bodys reaction to the physical sensations brought on by the thought itself.

This is how it works. Every time a person starts to worry, they directs a thought that the brain identifies as a danger. The brain subsequently sends information to the body to protect itself by releasing chemicals like adrenaline and cortisol. The human body reacts appropriately to the information sent by the brain, indicators which are often triggered by the thoughts of a person who started worrying.

Simply by being familiar with this, addicts realize the importance of paying closer focus on what they sense from their environment. They learn how to manage their thoughts far better in order to steer clear of the possible body reactions that can trigger their anxiety and depression. It is this type of addiction recovery approach that sets Drug Recovery Center apart from the rest since it is where addicts learn how to be better linked with their own humanity.

Christian belief for recovering from addiction

The addiction is something which is not forced onto someone; rather it is accepted willingly by the individuals because of its effects on mind and body. The addiction has a very soothing and calming effect on the addict. It makes them forget the worries or tensions for time being and relaxes the mind. The addictive substances are very much powerful and have long lasting effect on the humans. These substances are addictive because of their effect. People do not get that relaxing effect from any other thing. These substances release this effect without much effort from addict’s side.

Due to this characteristic, these substances become very popular. Alcohol is one of such substances which are initially taken to relax the mind and body after hectic and strenuous day. Gradually the body develops higher tolerance levels for that particular dose and to achieve that effect the individual increases the in- take. The vicious circle goes on. At one point there is a time when the addiction goes beyond control and it starts creating problems for the individual himself and his loved ones.

At this point a search for good and reliable rehab is the top priority for family and friends. They search for a good alcohol rehab for recovery treatment from alcohol addiction. There are various kinds of rehabs available these days. These rehabs suit to every need of the individual. Some of the rehabs follow preaching of Christ for healing the hurt soul or regaining the faith in oneself. It is always believed that the almighty has the power to get everybody through the tough times. The atheists have strong faith in the lord and the rehabs take help of this faith to revive the life after addiction.

Getting medical help or support is very much important in recovering from any addiction, similarly an evolvement of soul and controlling the mind to refrain from going back to the old addiction also plays equally important role in recovery. This is a holistic approach. The body is cleansed from toxins and the mind and soul is cleared from the ill- wills. Alcoholic treatment for Christian man in a rehab has spiritual setting for overall healing. This rehab not only targets the detoxification of body but also aims at spiritual development. The rehab centers offer church services, prayers, meditation, Biblical readings, religious discourses and pastoral counseling as well. These rehab centers give equal opportunity and treatment to all and show the spiritual path in order to reach God and live a clean life as per His teachings.
