Piano Compositions

Piano Compositions

If you are a pianist, then you already know that there is a vast array of literature at your disposal, from Baroque keyboard music originally composed for harpsichord to modern compositions. Most people have their favorite genres or style periods, however it can be very rewarding to expand into other areas and learn new styles. This versatility is necessary in many competitions and auditions. Even if you are just playing piano for fun, not to compete, expanding into new areas will allow you do discover new areas of interest you may not have considered before.

Baroque music is actually the closest analog from the past we have of modern jazz. Soloists were expected to improvise their own ornamentation during the performance and audiences would be displeased if the ornamentation was the same from performance to performance. Music from this period lends the pianist a great amount of artistic freedom within a set framework. Some great composers from this period included Scarlatti, Telemann, Platti, Giustini, Vivaldi, and of course, Bach.

Classical piano music is more formally stable than Baroque music. The general framework for sonata and concerto forms are solidified, though composers still worked outside of them to a degree. The music is less about the virtuosity and ability for the soloist to improvise and more about playing with tonal and formal expectations. Classical music is very plentiful. Some composers include Clementi, Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven, though in many ways he also fits into the Romantic period.

The Romantic era brought about a focus on sweeping melodies with colorful harmonies to support them. Classical form expanded hugely to the point that it was often unrecognizable. Traditional tonality was challenged by chromatic voice leading, modulations to unexpected keys and melodies informing harmonies instead of the other way around. Composers of the romantic era include Brahms, Chopin, Grieg, Kuhlau, Mendelssohn, Mussorgsky, Schubert, Schumann, Tchaikovsky and many others.

Occupying the same time period as many 20th century composers are the impressionists. These composers used compositional techniques derived from exposure to Jazz and other music in order to create an image in music. The music is characterized with syncopation and parallel chords. Debussy and Ravel were the main composers of impressionist music.

The 20th Century brought about much compositional change. Some composers removed themselves completely from tonality while others kept tonal ideas but also incorporated contemporary musical ideas. The range in style between Schoenberg’s atonal music and Prokofiev’s Neo-Classical compositions is huge and much can be gained from studying all segments of this time period. Some notable composers are Bartok, Gershwin, Khachaturian, Rachmaninoff, Shostakovich, and Stravinsky.

Jazz and ragtime music can be extremely fun to play. If you are interested in this, explore the compositions of Scott Joplin, Joseph Lamb, James Scott, Duke Ellington, and Thelonious Monk. This music is stylized in ways completely different than the above composers. Syncopation is used heavily and, in jazz, notes are often swung. Improvisation is highly valued in jazz idioms.

If your piano literature is limited to only a few genres, consider trying some music from one of these areas which you usually don’t choose or haven’t tried before. You may find that it’s not for you, however you may also find a new genre that you love. Expand your repertoire and challenge yourself by learning and mastering music which is new to you. You will be glad you did.

Composition – Basics

The word ‘composition’ may mean different things in different circumstances. The circumstances may indicate a personal narration, short story, an essay, a drama, poem or even prose. Though all fall under same category each has its own set of rules. However, there is a general style for writing a composition. A composition consists of three stages – introduction, explanation and conclusion. These three, when put together in correct order, give a very good composition. In this article we shall discuss about these three parts of the composition which makes it a good work. Before proceeding further, the writer must be specific regarding the topic. He/she has to decide what topic they are going to deal with in the composition.

Once the topic is decided, the next is an approach to present it and the first stage is ‘introduction’. In his writing the writer must mention beforehand what they are going to discuss in the writing and give a brief history of the same if applicable. This introduction is the key factor the makes the reader choose to read further or not. If the reader feels the introduction ineffective or not interesting he/she may not proceed to the details of the writing and leaves it unattended. Thus it is highly needed to make an attractive introduction. The introduction must be simple and brief that the readers get some basic idea of what they are reading. When this is done, the next task is to give a detailed description of the topic.

In this stage, the writer must elaborate the central concept of the writing and present it carefully without losing the clarity.

An important thing to note here is that complex words must be avoided. The style must be simple and intelligible to normal readers. It is always good to support the theme with an example since ‘an instance is better than thousand lines of explanation.’ Also since the readers find it interesting to learn from examples than from theory, it is better to quote an appropriate example. This makes the readers understand the idea better and makes the work useful. However, the extent of explanation varies with context. Sometimes a very detail description is needed while sometimes briefing fulfils the need.

And the final stage is the conclusion part. After giving the introduction and explaining the same an appropriate conclusion is needed to complete the writing. If the conclusion is not clear, the readers find difficulty to understand the essence of the writing. Sometimes they even end up with wrong conclusions. Thus an appropriate conclusion is needed. Though these three are met, unless there is good presentation style and language, the composition will not grab the attention of the readers.

Top Techno Songs

Hello fellow techno lovers, or those just waiting for the inevitable conversion to a new faith. From Sash to Picotto, this top 10 techno songs list really holds its own against any other on the web.

My own personal top techno songs may not be your own, nobody is perfect! If not then ultimately – fair enough. It’s completely relative to perspective although there are many songs many people like, so in some ways it’s more of a cross section of what people, including myself (yes I am a person), feel about techno. Of course you will get the odd techno viking saying, hey that’s not pure techno, and to be honest in some respects they are right.

Most techno is more hard edge, but the feeling is very similar and sometimes so hard to distinguish, that often many techno actually becomes more of a techno/trance combination, or even electro/techno.

I think all that matters though is the music, if you love electronica and the whole good vibe scene that goes with it, drop in – have a few Shandy’s and just appreciate it for what it is – really good music. What more can you ask for? OK probably quite a lot in all fairness, but it’s a pretty damn good place to start.

Deciding what is and is not techno can be hard even though there are techno cd’s dedicated purely to it. I actually sat down with my best mate (who incidentally is a an amazing producer of the stuff!) and we came up with a list for the top 10, but it can be pretty hard to distinguish between a lot of the tracks out there for what is and is not techno to put into our top techno songs list, or best techno songs, however you want to put it.

Ultimately many of the tracks are actually a mixture of trance and techno, but I’m sure most of you won’t mind as geniuses such as Tiesto and Darude have created many brilliant tunes down the years for us to listen to.

So here is our list of top techno songs, enjoy!

1.Sandstorm – Darude

2.Equador – Sash!
3.Insomnia – Faithless
4.Wizards of the Sonic – Westbam
5.Mysterious Times – Sash!
6.Lizard – mauro picotto
7.Children – Robert Miles
8.Encore En Fois – Sash!
9.In The Silence – DJ Contacreast
10.Komodo – Mauro Picotto

So I hope you like my top techno songs, I would love to know your own favorite top techno and ultimately your top techno songs, so please feel more than free to let me know in the comments box at the link provided and I hope to hear from you soon!

It’s all about the music!

Musical Composition

Musical composition can happen in advance with an aim towards repeat performance or it can happen on the spot when musicians improvise or jam. Composition describes the formal construction of a piece of music, both it’s incarnation on paper and its performance incarnation. Originally Western music was composed for the church and for worship. Its function was to be repeated but the artistic/creative elements of musical composition were lacking as the music itself was more pedagogical in purpose. Once polyphonic sounds began to creep in, composers began to record music on paper for future performance. This begins to happen when the view of music starts to change from that of a form of worship to a form of worship that also provides audio pleasure.

There is a mathematical precision to musical composition that is present in most studies of musical theory. Though music is a creative art, its composition and performance is both scientific and mathematical and adheres to certain rules of rhythm and spacing on the page in order to sound a particular way.

Traditional Gregorian Chant notation, some of the first written music in Western culture, is written in “neumes”. Neumes are the most basic building block of musical notation and predate the introduction of the five line staff notation. These original notations were simple dashes on a page. They did not always indicate a note to be sung as far as the pitch was concerned, but, rather, were an indication in what kind of sound was to be made and sometimes in what order. Though neumes are visually reminiscent of their later incarnation in the five line staff notation, their rules were completely different. Two, dashes, one a top of the other, might mean that the bottom “note” was to be sung first followed by the top. Other things are very close in range. For instance, when a dot was placed after a neume it was meant to indicate that the note was to be a held for a length of time. This same structure exists in modern music in the five line staff notation.

The earliest neumes were actually Aramaic, and did not originate in the early Christian Church. They were originally used to indicate how and with what tonal attributes a religious text was meant to be read. The utilization of neumes was the first step towards the composition and formal construction of music.

Techno Blast – Is Techno Becoming Mainstream?

Music has definitely spun through its popular genres within the last 10 years, with changes continuing each day. We can look at the different music genres and see how they have progressed over time and take note when we hear something new and different.

It appears that music’s pop genre seems to be changing. There is no telling how hard-core techno fans feel about this, but it appears that pop is morphing into a mainstreamed techno. To confirm this, let us take it to the charts.

According to multiple sources, here are a few songs and artists that have cycled through the Top 20 Pop Music list (please note that these are not in any specific order, but rather a simple list of popular artist that have hit the charts):

– Katy Perry “E.T. Featuring Kanye West”

– Britney Spears “Till the World Ends”

– Swedish House Mafia “One” and “Save the World”

– Ke$ ha “Blow”

– Usher “More”

– Rihanna “S&M”

– Far East Movement “Like a G6”

– Lady Gaga “Judas”

– Taio Cruz featuring Travie McCoy “Higher”

Now, these are only a few songs, but if you listen to them carefully, you can hear the music transitioning into techno, can you not? Yes, it appears that even popular artists cannot deny the greatness of techno.

How does this make you feel as a fan of techno? For some people, techno is like their secret “underground” dance musical love. Don’t worry friends. Remember, we did discuss the many faces and facets of techno music. You will always have trance, dubstep, and chill to groove to. On the other hand, let’s get amped up! Our favorite genre is beginning to infiltrate the popular music section. Here’s a way to think of it, when you’re at work and the boss puts on a pop radio station that drives you crazy, would you rather the typical music that makes your day drag on? Or do you want to hear something that makes you go, “Hmm, this sounds like techno. I like where we’re headed!”

What got this ball rolling you might ask? Many would argue that Lady Gaga’s rise to fame has caused many pop artists to question their musical progression. It has just been released that Lady Gaga now makes more money per capita than Oprah. Wow! That must be talent.

Either way, Lady Gaga fan or not, it appears that techno and pop are fusing in some sort of exciting fashion. So let us celebrate that fact that techno is beginning to capture the hearts of many! Let’s keep an open mind while this progression takes place and we’ll see where we end up. Happy listening and searches friends!

A Brief History Of Trance Music

Music production by-in-large has always been a coupling of arrangement and mixing of tracks once the arrangement was complete. With the emergence of synthesizers; or “synthes”, throughout the 1970’s and 80’s sounds once thought unattainable using physical instruments became possible. Despite this innovation, early producers used synthes to manipulate pre-recorded tracks rather than basing their music on the sounds they could produce on their own. In the late 1970’s French composer Jean Michel Jarre changed this practice when he used tracks for his album Oxygene created solely by a synth and thus the “electronica” sound was born. The new sound which had garnered great praise from the European musicians would gain U.S. popularity and yet another incarnation with the “new wave” movement of the 1980’s. Artist like Gary Numan, and Devo brought their own styles the genre.

While the sound had evolved steadily over two decades there was still a co-dependency between man and machine made music. This would transition in the early 90’s when “trance” music explode onto the world stage via the Germany club scene. A hybrid of house and techno, trance provided bands like The Disco Biscuits an audience for their music thought to be a fad. However, the success of the genre, now vastly instrumental, limited production to a heavily equip studio. The new millennium would see this problem expelled, as music once again met technology. The innovations of the home computer; and music creation software, took production out of the studio.

With all of the software available the pioneer has to be Ableton. Started in 1999; based in Trance birthplace Germany, Ableton released their first version Ableton Live in 2001. The software is unique as it works for traditional studio production but has Ableton live templates the can be utilized during a live show as well. Ableton live templates create the flexibility for DJ’s and artist to adjust their playlist to the venue and the minimal equipment needed favours mobility. Now on version 8, the company continues to flourish.

From the synthesizer to the Ableton live templates it appears trance music is here to stay!

Christian Drug Rehab Centers in Florida

Programs vary at Christian drug rehab centers. In drug rehab centers in florida and Christian treatment centers for alcoholism and addiction follow Alcoholics Anonymous’ 12 Step Model for recovery.

Both Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) consider themselves to be “spiritual” rather than “religious” programs. However, the roots of AA (and therefore NA) are in the Christianity.

Alcoholics and addicts working towards recovery are like the proverbial sinner seeking redemption. Their programs are similar: alcoholics and addicts have the 12 Steps of AA; Christians have the Bible’s Ten Commandments.

The first and second commandments are requirements that only God is to be worshiped.

Step One of Alcoholics Anonymous tells those seeking recovery from alcoholism or addiction that they must admit and accept their disease, their powerlessness over it, and recognize the unmanageability of their lives. The spiritual principle behind Step One is Honesty.

Step Two offers encouragement in that it offers hope — and Hope is this step’s spiritual principle — for a belief in a Higher Power can aid in achieving and maintaining sobriety.

The third commandment is a reminder that if God’s name is used, it should be used properly, preferably prayerfully.

The Third Step informs addicts and alcoholics to turn themselves over to the care of their Higher Power. The principle is Faith.

The fourth commandment is a prompt to work all week, then rest, worshiping God on the Sabbath.

The Fourth Step’s spiritual principle is Courage. It’s needed as this step insists upon a personal inventory along with an accounting of misdeeds.

In Step Five, Integrity is the spiritual principle. That’s what’s exhibited when AA members admit their wrongdoings.

The fifth commandment is fairly self-explanatory. In AA, it’s worthwhile to honor your program elders (sponsor, “Old-timers,” etc.).

Willingness is the principle in Step Six. One must be willing to have their character flaws removed by a Higher Power.

The remainder of the Ten Commandments involves what NOT to do:

Don’t murder anyone

Don’t cheat on your spouse

Don’t steal

Don’t lie about your neighbor or anything else

Don’t be envious

Humility is the spiritual principle of Step Seven. It is necessary to be pride-free when seeking assistance in removing our faults.

In Step Eight, the principle is Brotherly Love. That’s what addicts and alcoholics need in order to prepare to atone for misdeeds.

The principle of Step Nine is Justice. Justice is meted out when addicts and alcoholics carry out Step Eight and attempt to make “amends.”

Perseverance is Step Ten’s spiritual principle. It’s necessary to have perseverance when examining one’s thoughts and actions and admit wrongdoing.

Step Eleven’s principle is Spirituality. This step provides guidance on meditation and prayer.

Service is the spiritual principle for Step Twelve. Like evangelical Christianity, service is carrying the message and assisting those in need.

Christian drug rehab centers in Florida and drug rehab centers in florida are finding areas where AA and NA overlap with faith and sharing what they discover with those in need of recovery.

The History Of Gospel Music

At churches all across the United States, Gospel Choirs have spread Joy and inspiration for Hundreds of years. Each Sunday people are clapping hands and dancing to the sound of Gospel lyrics, but why? What is it about the Gospel Song lyrics that moves people to such levels of ecstasy? Is it the words? Is it the surrounding? And where does it all come from?

Although the the church and worship are over 2000 years old, we can only trace Gospel music to the 18th century. Gospel Song Lyrics are very repetitive. Many believe this comes from the slave times when blacks were not able to read, this allowed them also to take part in the worship. The worship services also played a big role in reinforcing the slavery indoctrination, as the sermons were often taken from St. Paul which talked about: good servants, loving, obeying and trusting ones master. The hymns of the white master became the backdrop for the music of the enslaved Africans which later they used in worship meetings.
The Beginnings

The person who many consider to be the father of Gospel Music, Thomas A. Dorsey (1899-1993) was fittingly the son of a Baptist minister, and played with the most famous blues singers of all time-specifically, Bessie Smith (1894-1937) and Ma Rainey (1886-1939). Ironically his fist love was Blues and Ragtime. After two nevervous breakdowns in 1928, He decided to take a break from the music business and that is where he began to change his direction to religious composing. 1932 Dorsey organized one of the fist Gospel Choirs in Chicago at the Pilgrim Baptist Church. It was here that Dorsey began to write religious music, although he did abandon his style of bright or gaudy lyrics, the rhythmic style of jazz and his love of the blues flavor stayed. But not everyone was overjoyed with the new style of the gospel music, some of the old guard conservatives labeled it the devils music and shunned it. But, he stayed true to his music and lived long enough to write over 800 songs and hear his musics ascend from the first row pews to the choir stand, where it previously had been banned. To insure this, Dorsey founded The National Convention of Gospel Choirs and Choruses in 1932, an organization still in existence today.

A 1994 Score magazine article titled The Father of Gospel Music quoted Dorsey as saying, When I realized how hard some folks were fighting the gospel idea, I was determined to carry the banner.
Carry it he did. I borrowed five dollars and sent out 500 copies of my song, If You See My Savior, to churches throughout the country. It was three years before I got a single order. I felt like going back to the blues.
Many Famous Singers have their roots in Gospel Music

Once Gospel music was defined as religious, but gospel has moved to the mainstream and has its mark on all other types of music and popular culture. The list of singers who got their start in music from singing in the choir is way to long to even begin to write down in this small space but just to get an idea of what legends started out with the gospel song lyrics before moving on to other genres of music are Superstars in pop and soul such as Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston or Mary J. Blidge. Also Country stars like Tennessee-Ernie-Williams and Glen Camble and yes even the king himself Elvis Presley started with gospel music.
The Most Famous Gospel Choir

Probably the most famous Gospel choir is the Harlem Gospel Choir It was founded in 1986 and has spent the better part of the last 25 years touring the country raising money for children charities and spreading the love of gospel music to millions of people. Allen Baily was the founder and he got the idea while attending a celebration to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, JR. At the Cotton Club in Harlem. The Choir includes some of the best singers and musians from black churches in Harlem and the Greater New York area. The choirs main goal is to create a better understanding of the African-American culture & the inspirational music called Gospel as it relates to the Black Church. But, certainly the music is for everyone. If you see a concert in your area its always a good recommendation to attend this gospel celebration of singing and dancing!.
Todays Gospel Music

Gospel Music has branched out in so many directions over the years. Now Christian rock is the new age of music and the singers are listed weekly on the bill board gospel charts. There is a GMA (Gospel Music association) it has become a multi million dollar business as well. But no mater how the sound changes over the years, the roots will always be from heart and soul of the black American slaves that started this wonderful sound.
