Significance Of Music History Explained

Learning history of any subject may seem dull and boring, but nevertheless it is very important for the students. The importance of music should be taught to kids from an early age, and this has been validated and supported by neurological analysis of children, who were exposed to music before the age of four. Music fathoms expression in most primordial forms. Children simply enjoy making peculiar noises and sounds. If while teaching history, they are taught how to make musical sounds, what produces good sounds and how to recognize a good sound, then the significance behind learning music could be adequately built up in them.

Music has the power to improve other subjects in school. A music class could act upon as an enhancement class. Apart from that, reading music really helps in familiarizing the students to letters, which in turn, helps them to build up a habit of reading. With every type of music such as baroque, romantic, classical etc. having their own local and historical characteristics, teaching music history throws up information regarding composers, lyricists, and singers from these genres.

With the electronic media making stamping its existence in every family, the students’ minds are often saturated with songs that even adults cannot interpret. Music history teaching often leads to learning songs with straightforward lyrics. There are several individuals who fail to appreciate the significance of teaching history of music to children. Worse still, they see no motive behind including music in a school curriculum.

However, majority of those possessing such an idea can’t deliberately understand living without music. Numerous administrators see music as some co-curricular activity, overlooking its critical ingredients. However, care needs to be taken to see that these classes don’t end up being long lectures with bored eyed students yawning. Make it pleasant with inter spread games and exciting quizzes.

Teaching Music History in Music Education classes needn’t be always boring. It can be made very exciting and fun. To know more about how to teach music history in a simple and interesting manner, Click Here.

Music Therapy ? How Can Music Therapy Work?

Music therapy is a unique style of therapy, involving music to help overcome cognitive, emotional, social, and physical problems. It may be used to help promote overall health, manage stress, improve memory, help expression of feelings, reduce or eliminate pain, or support healing from physical problems or disorders.

This form of healing is done through a music therapist.  The practitioner makes an initial assessment of the client’s overall emotional and physical well-being. He or she also looks at the client’s level of social functioning, cognitive skills, and communication skills. After making these assessments, the therapist creates individual music sessions for the client.  These sessions can also include group music therapy. Activities could be listening to music, discussing lyrics, performing music, writing songs, and learning through music.

This approach to therapy has indeed been shown to help both children and adults of all age ranges. It helps those with developmental and learning disabilities surmount obstacles. It also can help those with Alzheimer’s disease and other age-related conditions recoup their memory.  In addition, those who have coped with drug abuse or who have suffered from brain injuries can benefit from music therapy.  People dealing with chronic or acute pain, including mothers giving birth, can also use music therapy to alleviate pain.

Music therapy is also sometimes used by hospitals to improve the mood of their patients or to counteract depression. Clinics also use music to help encourage patients to move during physical therapy, or to calm patients that need to be sedated or who need to rest.  It is also used in hospitals to reduce muscle tension and to help patients relax.

Even schools use music therapy to help children be more successful. For special education students, music therapy is sometimes included in the student’s Individualized Education Plan, or IEP.  Music therapy is sometimes used to help these children improve their communication skills or to strengthen their physical coordination, which helps them be more successful in general education classes.

The American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) has conducted a great deal of research into the effectiveness of music therapy.  There research has time after time shown the constructive effects of music therapy.

Why Music While Meditating Helps

There are many reasons why music while meditating helps people relax and meditate completely.

First of all, while you do not have to have meditation music, it can help if you have something soothing going on. Many people have found that the music begins to set them into meditation mode because they use the same music all the time, hence, allowing them to relax sooner.

Also, as much as we would like a completely silent area to meditate, exterior sounds often come through. This means that your subconscious is actually checking in on those sounds to check for danger, or an alert signal. By adding music you can actually reduce your subconscious mind’s worry over extraneous sounds.

Other people start the music early, because it allows them to sit down and actually meditate. While they finish up chores around the house, or other duties, there body is starting to recognize that it’s time to meditate and they find that they actually get the medidation done.

Other people feel that music during meditation is the wrong thing to do. If you’re curious whether it will help your meditation, you’ll have to try a variety of different types of music and sounds. Many types of music are available for download on the Internet, this can allow you a variety until you find the music that works for you, or find out if it actually hinders you.

If your curious as to whether your particular form of meditation can use music as a tool, try it and see if it helps. Then you may need to speak to your meditation supervisor. Music Computational Engine

Music Computational Engine

In my last article “What is computational Music?” I explained in plain words what is computational music and what will be expected from a software that generates computational music based on Indian Music Computational theory. This article is giving a simple introduction on how to generate computational tones for fun and learning power of computational music engines or software.

Step 1: Go to site called tones.wolfram.com/generate/

Step 2: Make sure to have Quick Time Plug-in installed on your browser.

Step 3: Make sure your computer can play sound i.e MIDI Data.

Step 4: Make sure you have latest version of standard browsers and Javascript enabled.

Step 5: tones.wolfram.com cannot work without Internet connection make sure it works, however it can work without broadband connection.

Step 6 : Now, Look at the compositional controls on the web page, to develop your tone you must have knowledge of following before you really begin developing your own composed tone:

1. Musical Scale

2. Music Pitch Levels

3. Time Based : Tempo

4. Time Based : Duration

5. Music Instruments

Step 7 : Once you have acquired knowledge of concepts mentioned in step 6 to certain degree you can start experimenting to generate computational tones.

Step 8: Assuming that you have some degree of knowledge of music genre, we can select “new composition button”

Step 9 : Select the Style or music genre.

Step 10 : You may select “Show Variations” of the music style you have selected. It shows images for five compositions derived by making increasing changes to the Seed and Rule used to generate them.

Step 11 : One by one select the Instruments, Scale, Tempo, etc.

Step 12 : If you are done, now play or download your tone.

Categories of Music Gear

Categories of music gear encompass under them a wide range of musical instruments and equipment. There are a lot of categories and sub categories of music gear. They can be classified based upon the usage or based upon the mechanisms.

The two main categories that they can be classified into are acoustic and electronic. The gears that do not need any external electrical help are called acoustic music gears. Any acoustic instrument is a part of this category. The gears that are electricity supported are called electrical music gears.

Acoustic music gear

This category of music gear includes mostly the instruments and equipment in their original versions. Acoustic music gear do not need any external electrical help. Very good instances of this category of music gear are acoustic guitar, acoustic drums, violin, flute or any other acoustic instrument.

But the most interesting factor about acoustic music gear is that some of them can be used as electronic gear. You can take acoustic guitar for instance. If you add a pick up with the acoustic guitar, then it can be played electrically. Then the sound of this guitar can be deviated into the amplifiers. That means the sound will be heard from the amplifier.

But do not think that by adding a pick up you can use the acoustic guitar just like an electric guitar. That is not possible. Pick-ups just pave the way to the amplification of the sound. It cannot change the tone or the effect. Do not mix up acoustic guitar with the electric guitar. Though both of them are guitars and their playing style is the same, that does not mean that they are the same. They are widely different in many aspects.

Electronic music gear

This is one of the most important categories of music gear. Electronic music gear is totally different from the acoustic ones. This category of gear cannot be used without electricity. Electric guitar, synthesizer, and octopad fall in this category. Apart from them there are other kinds of electronic gear also. There are microphones, amplifiers, processors and pedals.

Though some of the acoustic instruments can be played electrically, no electrical instrument can be played acoustically. Electric connection is necessary for all of them.

The most important accessories of any musical instrument are amplifiers and microphones. The amplifier and microphone are almost the same. They enhance the sound of the instrument and vocal. The microphone collects the sound and carries it to the audience. But the amplifier just spreads the sound. They cannot collect them. To collect, you need a microphone.

While talking about electronic music gear, one cannot forget to mention the processor. The processor is a tiny gadget that consists of a whole lot of brilliant effects and tones. If you connect your guitar with this gadget, then you will be able to use all these tones and effects. There are some good quality processors available these days that provide you some more facilities like mixing two of the existing tones and making a new tone of your own.

Make Beats For Free, Music Maker Software, Multitrack Recording Software

Hip Hop has existed on the radio for many years now. It is defined by the numerous styles it makes use of, such as rapping, sampling, scratching and beat boxing. Given that it got going in the 70s, every year it is much more powerful. This article will offer ideas regarding how to create a hip hop beat.

Hip hop beat is categorized in to two components: the Beat and also the Vocals. The beat in the most basic form stands out as the instrumental which is used through the entire duration. The elements contained in Hip Hop construction are audio drum loops / MIDI drum patterns, bassline, orchestration (possibly synth pads, horns and also strings) and dubs and snips.

Audio drum loops/ MIDI drum patterns would be the primary as well as fundamental foundation of your entire track. You need to be extremely careful whatever you decide to put here. Audio drum loops will be the easiest method to modify the track because you are able to transform it entirely. While MIDI drum patterns tend to be more complex compared to Audio loops, they offer the greatest results.

Basslines on the contrary are hardly ever complicated in hip hop beats, they’re essentially heavy and low and often use a sub-bass component that is brought out through filtering and over compression of sound. Any time you’re having fun with basslines, keep it simplistic whenever possible.

Finding elements or instruments that will go nicely with each other harmoniously is known as an orchestration. The experimentation rule is applicable here, therefore keep trying till you obtain the perfect symphony that you’d like. The various components that provide highlight and character are called the dubs and snips.

The second component of a hip hop beat will be the vocal which is made up of a main vocal, that’s the one which performs the rap. The second vocal is really a guest vocal which could have a verse as well as the background vocals to help you bring all the things together. An overdubbed vocal is the primary vocal which might be doubled, tripled and even quadrupled when there’s a desire for emphasis.

In summary, whenever you create a hip hop beat, you need to:

1.Create the beat using drums (4-8 measures long)

2.Include your baseline – the most effective and the most widely used formatting of sound is actually MIDI

3.Create the orchestration

4.Insert the samples

5.Add the effects – Putting in the effects will give character to your beat where you could venture into various styles. Understand that this is your beat- That you can do anything to it! Become your own artist.

Now that you know of the fundamental principles of how you can make a hip hop beat, all you need to do is acquire software to create the actual hip hop beat which matches your style. There’s a lot of software programs out there; all you need to do is to look. For example there’s Fruity loop and Audacity. Now begin to make that funky cool fresh new beat!

If you’ve always wanted to make it big making your own Hip-Hop and Rap Beats . Take a look at this incredible sofeware that will take you from dreaming to living the life of a Hip-Hop and Rap Producer.

How to Produce Music and Music Mixing Techniques

I started to try and mix a few of my own songs a few months back and I found that there is a lot more to mixing than I first thought, a real science in fact! I thought about going to a music production school to take some lesson but I didn’t have the time or money. I have put a few points together that anyone who is about to mix a track for the first time or thinking seriously about music production. You should make sure of the following music production tips:

Make sure you do not use bad quality recordings – If you are recording a guitar or bass from an organic instrument you need to make sure the quality of the sound/recording is good or that all the audio within your song is at the same level of quality, otherwise no matter of mixing will fix it. Most people will aim for the best quality but, budget can affect this, so weight up at what the overall quality level you are wanting and stick to it for each track. This is one of the best music mixing tips anyone can without a doubt learn.

Fix all problems you might have with equipment/software before recording – Now, anyone recording anything ever will have had the nightmare of a piece of equipment not doing what it should or what it normally does. No matter how long it takes and how annoying it gets, always fix any problems with software or equipment before you sit down and start mixing. It can be very counterproductive to not sort these problems beforehand. At least get the anything that could cause a problem along the way fixed as much as you can. It is all very well knowing how to produce music but first you need to have everything in order before you hone in on your music mixing techniques.

Be realistic with what you can accomplish based upon your skills and equipment – Having high goals is great, but you are not going to make a home recorded song/album sound anything like a studio recorded album. It is worth remembering that the people (producers) mixing the songs and albums in these studios have many many years of experience. Having said that it is true to say that you do not have to have been to the University of Music to be able to mix and write your own songs.

Do what you can with what you have and do not be disheartened or intimidated by big artists that you like.. find some of the early songs or even demos if you can and see where they started.

There are many other music mixing tips to consider if you are interested in helping yourself understand how to produce music. I believe that if anyone ever wants to improve their music mixing techniques they should take a look at THIS website. It could be the case that you are stuck and do not know what to do next or it could be you are wanting to learn more skills and ‘tricks of the trade’, either way you should take a look.

Kraftwerk: Inspiration For Techno Music As We Know It Today

Have you ever been walking down the street when a car drives by and you hear a funky beat that makes you want to start grooving down the sidewalk? More than likely it was an awesomely mixed electronic dance music jam you heard, otherwise known as techno.

As what often happens with the origins of music genres, the history of techno really depends on who you’re talking to and what region you explore. The beginning story of techno differs whether you’re talking about techno in Europe or the United States. However, what is generally accepted as the story of techno emergence is that in the 1980s, three Detroit artists, known as the “Belleville Three,” fused the repetitive electro sounds of Kraftwerk with the rhythms of funk.

And here lies one key component to the awesome booty-shaking sounds we hear today: Kraftwerk. Kraftwerk is an electro music band from Germany who began making beats in the 1970s. The group was initially formed by classically trained musicians Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider, who became intrigued by the technical efficiency of machines. Since Kraftwerk’s beginning, there have been several additions and subtractions to the band. Their international breakthrough album, Autobahn, was the start of massive movements within various genres across the board. Not only has their music influence techno music, but has also inspired the rock n’ roll, pop music, and the hip-hop community.

Kraftwerk’s early albums were described more as free-form experimental rock but as their music progressed, they began using technology such as synthesizers, drum machines, vocoders, and self-made instruments.

Where many describe the early sound of Kraftwerk as more noise without much rhythm, Autobahn is considered the turning point where they began to incorporate rhythm, pop hooks, and disciplined structure. Though lyrics are generally kept to a minimum in their music, when there are lyrics incorporated, they are often about technology and urban life. Perhaps this is part of the reason why they’ve had a strong influence in the hip-hop and techno community.

Kraftwerk’s music is still incredibly influential after 30 something years. The electronic band’s last performance to date was in September 2009, which was at a festival on the Isle of Wight (an English island) named Bestival. It is rumored that a box set of Kraftwerk’s first three experimental albums, which weren’t as well perceived as their Autobahn album, is in the works, as well as a new studio album.

If you’ve never feasted your ears upon the unique sounds and rhythms of Kraftwerk’s music, I highly suggest you get on it. Though Kraftwerk’s music isn’t for everyone, if you’re into the electronic music scene, it may be beneficial know the roots and understand where a lot of the music you love today got its influence from. Before Kraftwerk, no band had ever quite experimented with technology and music in a similar way.

Coming Into Its Own: A History of Techno Music

The early 80’s saw the beginning of modern techno music. Though electronic music was already beginning to rise in popularity via new advances in technology and disco, techno really didn’t begin to develop until this time. Early techno music began as being a series of regularly driven beats that were put together with distorted and synth sequences. Not many people realize this, but Detroit is known for being the birthplace of modern techno music as we know it.

The early greats or the grandfathers of techno music were producers such as Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May, and Juan Atkins. Known together as the “Belleville Three,” they produced music for the club scene and co-opped the styles of early German musicians Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk. For the duration of the 80’s, techno remained very much an underground scene, though it was very popular in New York and Chicago clubs.

In Detroit, most of the early techno musicians used cheap or used electronic instruments to make new sounds. These methods typically weren’t the way that the original instrument was intended to work, but the sound that evolved this way was unique and all its own. Science fiction and other futuristic themes became staples of inspiration and the sound that came forth changed the music scene in subtle ways at first.

Detroit was already beginning to decline, and the industrial areas where techno music was produced and played seemed a stark contrast to the upbeat, driven music. Juan Atkins said of early techno, “It’s an attitude to making music that sounds futuristic, something that hasn’t been done before.”

Cybotron was one of the first artists to make the mainstream. “Alleys of Your Mind” became a very popular song but still, the genre hadn’t exploded into popularity. In 1988, however, a compilation album called “Techno! The New Dance Sound” gave the music style a boost and really began to shape the future of the genre itself. By the early nineties, Europeans had taken a strong liking to the style, and it became much more popular overseas than in the US. Electronica was already big overseas and this made a great deal of sense. However, something happened in the 90’s that would suddenly skyrocket the genre’s popularity in the US as well.

During the 90s, parties known as raves became very popular. Initially an underground thing, these were parties where continuous mixes of different sounds and electronic music played. Almost entirely dance parties, raves gained popularity and notoriety rather quickly. The Detroit Electronic Music Festival suddenly began to thrive in 2000, and fans from all over the world came to enjoy this free dance party.
