Rational Recovery Meetings And Addiction Issues

Rational Recovery meetings (RR meetings) are no longer held by the RR group since the organization re-evaluated their trademark Addictive Voice Recognition Technique (AVRT), a patented technique which emphasizes self-recovery from addiction. Instead of holding recovery programs in group settings, RR now focuses on being a worldwide resource for counseling, guidance, and instruction on self-recovery from drug addiction plus other addiction. Through Rational Recovery’s AVRT, the goal for each individual struggling with addiction emphasizes permanent abstinence through careful planning.

The Rational Recovery organization used to hold group meetings for those who were going through AVRT-based recovery. The program, despite no longer being held in a group setting, continues to be a comprehensive addiction remedy wherein people are focused on acheiving recovery. The goals include shortest time possible for improvement, regardless of age, drug of choice, previous failed attempts at rehabilitation, and the presence of other personal problems.

During Rational Recovery group meetings, participants would use AVRT to demonstrate that—in terms of addiction to drugs and other substances—the thought always precedes the end act. Members would discuss how they used AVRT to recognize tell-tale signs of craving cycles, and would share about how to directly combat their inclinations.

Aside from focusing on AVRT-based group discussions, these RR meetings would encourage participants to renew their commitments to permanent abstinence. This was guided by a principle of unconditional self-acceptance (as opposed to the self-rating used in other types of programs) and the Rational-Emotive Therapy of Albert Ellis, Ph.D. (RET was a self-help method based on practical application and focused on how to control depression, fear, shame, anger, and guilt.)

Each meeting would affirm these essentials components of the RR program. However, as the organization progressed, RR began to emphasize that AVRT on its own was an effective method for ending addictive cravings. When combined with RET, both components worked together toward recovery—without the need for a group setting.

There are no longer Rational Recovery group meetings presently. This is because in AVRT-based recovery, the focus is on the individual’s ability for self-recovery. In principle, the concept is not compatible with the group format. This is unlike aa or na meetings where group support is seen as an important part of the recovery and maintenance process.

In summary, AVRT-based recovery empowers recovering addicts to battle self-doubt. It is self-doubt, in fact, which RR believes is the reason people seek a group format or setting. AVRT-based recovery is not dependent on attending Rational Recovery meetings with psychologists and fellow recovering addicts; rather, it’s success is measured when a person successfully battles his self-doubt and is empowered to strive for abstinence.

Energy medicine supports quick alcohol addiction recovery

When talking about a new Alcohol addiction recovery method, people assume that it should be a latest invention like some medicine or injection or some NGO must be starting its rehabilitation center for alcoholic people. Until now, people knew that only medicines, counseling and rehabilitation could relieve from the iron grip of alcohol addiction. But little do they know about the new energy treatment that is talk of the town and even medical community acknowledges the benefits of energy treatment. Many alcohol addicts have been benefitted by this specific treatment which involves no medicine, counseling or rehabilitation. This is simply amazing. Isn’t it?

People treated with this new method have a history of binge. Some of them even had undergone some kind of treatment in order to get rid of the alcohol abuse but all went in vain. Then they were introduced to energy treatment which they were reluctant to start. They were of the view that when medicines can’t help then how this energy treatment can support alcohol addiction recovery. Their assumption proved wrong and today they are leading a normal life free of alcohol. The energy treatment is a boon for alcohol addicts and this is proved beyond doubt.

Traditional medicine and rehabilitation methods force the person to abdicate alcohol. These methods rely more on person’s will power rather than on the treatment. There is a time in a day when alcohol addicts feel intense craving for their favorite beverage. As long as they are in the rehab center or under the influence of the medicine, they suppress their desire. But once out into the free world, they prove weak before their craving and start drinking again. This is the main primary reason why alcohol addiction recovery with conventional methods has remained a tricky issue. Medicines and rehab centers put brakes on the drinking habit but they can’t treat the desire to drink.

However, an energy medicine doctor treats your desire to drink alcohol rather than tweaking your habit. Once the alcohol desire is eradicated, you will never drink alcohol again in your life. The energy doctor inspects the addict both from inside as well as outside to arrive at a decision. The Alcohol addiction recovery by energy treatment involves counseling which is positive in nature and guiding in behavior. Alcohol addicts find solace in energy counseling and feel confident enough to suppress their desire rather than drinking habit.

Alcohol addiction recovery by energy treatment

Alcohol addiction recovery has been a elusive issue for people grappling with this problem. Though there are counselors, alcohol rehabs and many other treatments available, nothing seems to help the alcoholic persons. Alcohol is a social menace which has devastated many lives and severed even blood bonds. Once caught in the grip of this liquid, people find it next impossible to stop drinking. They crave for whisky several times in a day and when stopped, they become violent and sabotage everything they have at hand. Sometimes their frustration drives them to take extreme step – suicide. There are instances when alcoholic person failed to withstand the craving and end his life to escape humiliation.

Where everything fails, prayer works. Energy medicine provides reliable alcohol addiction recovery program. No medicine to take, no shock therapy, no abstinence and no living in rehabilitation center. Energy medicine has helped over thirty thousand alcohol addicts from returning back to their normal life, free of alcohol obviously. If the stories of people treated with energy medicine are to be believed then the world has a sure way to treat alcohol addiction. The new way to liberty from alcohol is reliable, cost effective and doesn’t require the addicted person to remain under supervision.

The energy medicine doctor examines the alcoholic person both from inside and outside and then starts his treatment which is counseling. The energy doctor with the help of his special abilities detects the problem area and tells the patient about all that is happening within the patient’s body. This is a unique alcohol addiction recovery program in which the patient is made to understand what is good for his health and why he should abstain from the golden liquid which is called alcohol. Looking at the number of people benefitted from energy treatment, there remains little doubt that it can help people get rid of alcohol.

Medical science has also acknowledged the advantage of energy treatment. There are doctors who substantiate the claim made by energy doctors. They recommend this treatment to their patients. Energy treatment is becoming popular day by day. Alcohol has people of all ages in its strong grip. Men and women, young and adult and even elderly and old are fighting with alcohol. Now with the help of energy alcohol addiction recovery, it is easy for people to stop drinking alcohol. They can discover the energy within their body hence no need to rely on any external source for feeling empowered.

Panic Attacks Treatment – Addiction to Recovery

Effective panic attacks treatment typically includes a limited number of techniques, often best used in combination. Unusual or rare causes, and therefore unusual cures to panic attacks are possible. Sometimes for example, a pharmaceutical drug may trigger panic attacks. Switching to a different drug may stop the panic. But most causes of panic attacks are common enough to make a limited number of techniques effective.

In most cases also, both physical and psychological causes may be assumed, with psychological treatments usually proving relatively more effective long term than physical ones such as drugs or nutritional supplements. Or in rare cases where the cause of panic attack is solely physical, a targeted physical solution may cure the panic, such as one individual for whom nothing but magnesium supplementation served to eliminate panic attacks.

I. Panic attack patterns are often like an addiction

A single panic attack may be isolated. It may not recur. But when a pattern of panic attacks develop, they may usually be considered to be like an addiction … although with panic attacks one is motivated by a strong desire to avoid more attacks (or some worse fear) rather than being tempted by a desirable object like alcohol or drugs. Granted also, alcohol, for example, may be consumed in order to avoid certain negative emotions. Panic attack sufferers may have an additional problem with addictive substances, just not necessarily so.

And unfortunately like a person with an addiction, the panic attack sufferer becomes controlled or strongly influenced by the addiction. By definition, panic is a fear that has gotten out of control. Between attacks, the sufferer’s behavior is controlled by fear of another attack. The sufferer avoids, sometimes going to great lengths to avoid whatever is perceived as a source or possible source of fear. Persons with agoraphobia, by way of illustration, are often unable to leave their house.

And panic attacks become like an addiction in that avoidance behaviors are characteristic. Avoidance behaviors can take many forms. Prescription drugs used to treat anxiety or depression, calming herbs and calming nutritional substances, relaxation techniques, and distractions from fear, as examples, may on the one hand be useful tools in calming the mind or harmful tools enabling the panic attack sufferer to continue in avoidance behaviors and in an addiction to avoiding bodily fear responses. The tools themselves are not bad, they usually just need to be used, if at all, as supplements in a larger strategy.

But then avoidance is not always a bad thing. For example, one ought to back away from a real, immediate hazard like falling out of an upper story window. Or those living with a heightened state of anxiety would do well to avoid the stimulant caffeine … not to mention for various reasons also alcohol and sugar. One would do well to avoid the stress of some jobs or, depending on individual sensitivities, a moldy lower floor or an area laced with industrial toxins or city pollution.

The kind of avoidance behaviors that typically mark panic attacks include for example a failure to engage in normal or formerly fun activities, day-to-day responsibilities, or appearing in public or in select social situations. When one would rather do anything than face panic, panic is in control.

And as is true of addictions, lack of control over panic may drive a person to denial, defensiveness, or depression. Admitting loss of control even to oneself is scary and often socially embarrassing. Admitting lack of control to oneself also seems a short cut to despair. And yes, panic attacks are horrible. Often really horrible. How is one ever to climb out of the hole?

II. Treating panic attacks as one treats an addiction

Possibly the most effective way to control panic attacks is usually to welcome rather than reject the panic sensations in one’s body. Invite the symptoms of fear to do more than they do. Rather than flee from the lion of panic, face it. Rather than avoid, confront. Avoidance empowers fear. Confrontation empowers self over fear.

But who wants to face the lion of panic? Not everyone. And facing panic is very painful and scary. Or one may be discouraged by past failed attempts to control panic attacks. Nor can one merely wish them out of existence.

But if many have overcome their panic, why not oneself? One need not one face one’s fears alone. Nor need one face them all at once. They can be broken down into small steps and faced with a counselor. it also helps to keep a diary of feelings. Over time, a diary helps one think in a more rational and controlled fashion. The more objective view of oneself observing oneself helps one feel more in control. Distracting oneself in order to exercise the feeling of sincere thankfulness helps calm one’s mind too.

There are substances that can be used occasionally or initially to reduce anxiety. Certain drugs, herbs, homeopathy or aromatherapy materials can be useful here. And good lifestyle activities strengthen one in the fight. Good sleep habits, regular exercise, deep and slow breathing exercises, a healthy diet, and even enjoyable hobbies may fit here. Such healthy “physical” treatments can be very important, even necessary additions to behavioral or psychological treatments.

If panic attacks are like common addictions in various ways, they can also be treated effectively like addictions.

Music Making Software DUBturbo

DUBturb Makes Complex Beat Sequences With Garageband Ease

Quite honestly, when I first received this product to review I was a bit skeptical because I had never heard of it and my extensive background as a musician seems to get in the way of what I always desire in applications involving music.  But, I was pleasantly surprised, this application seemed to really have it all.  I was never left with the common feeling of ‘I wish it could do that’ that I get with so many music applications.  In this article I plan on discussing the main points and features of DUBturbo that will allow the average and the musically inclined to make beat sequences and patterns easily.

There are 3 Main components to DUBturbo which separate it from the rest of the other recording and beat sequencing softwares out there, and of course several little things that do as well, but I’ll discuss these 3 big things first.

The first main component of DUBturbo is the sequencer.  The sequencer is the all familar ProTools/GarageBand style screen which shows you the tracks and when they are playing or not playing.  It’s not too special, but what does set this apart is that it’s got 16 tracks.  A drum sequencer with 16 tracks is pretty uncommon because most have far fewer!  It’s not the unlimited that ProTools will give you, but will ProTools run on your netbook?  I don’t think so; DUBturbo will.  DUBturbo lays out all the tracks easily in the sequencer view, I tend to think of this as my home screen.

The next main component of DUBturbo is the drum machine.  It’s obvious that this was very well thought out.  Unlike GarageBand where you are forced into drum sequences, DUBturbo lets you create anyone you like, or modify one that already exists.  It’s limited to just 10 pads per track, but this allows you to ‘type’ in the rhythm by using your computer keyboard as the drum pad.  It converts your number pad into a drum set and you get to define each sound.  There couldn’t be a more customized way of doing this either.  You can choose either predefined drum ‘sets’ or make your own.  To enter rhythms, you can either use your mouse and click on which part of the beat you want sound to happen or type it in on your drum pad/keyboard.  This thing is awesome.

The other main component to DUBturbo is the 4 Octave Keyboard feature.  This is THE thing that sets DUBturbo apart from the competition.  You can insert melodic ideas, harmonic ideas, bass lines, anything with this.  Beats without bass are boring, repetitive and seriously lame.  But add a bass line, or some sort of harmonic or melodic interest and all of a sudden those repetitive beats seem to have some sort of flow and provide interest to your listeners.  DUBturbo also makes it easy as pie to use the keyboard feature.  By using your computer keyboard, you can put the notes in just like you were at a piano.  It’s so easy and simple to do, I wish that Sibelius or Finale notation software were this easy!  DUBturbo allows you to use up to 4 Octaves which is a big range.  To some that may seem limited, but if you separate your tracks it’s difficult to feel limited.

Here are the other things that are really cool about DUBturbo…

There are soooo many sounds you can play with.  If you’ve ever used GarageBand, there are a lot of different sounds and sequences you can use, but navigating them takes practice to learn and it’s not that easy, with DUBturbo, all the sounds are easy to navigate.  They pop up in the middle of the screen, not just at the bottom like in GarageBand.  You can do more with the sounds, you can even change the keys the sounds are in.  In GarageBand you are stuck to whatever key the sample is in, which may not be the key of your beat.  DUBturbo makes changing keys easy.

DUBturbo lets you upload your beats and sell them to other DUBturbo users.  That’s right, writing music is easy on DUBturbo and getting paid for those beats is just as easy!

DUBturbo outputs studio quality sounds so you don’t have to worry about loss of quality when you burn to CD.

Using DUBturbo is easy, even for the non-musical user.  It includes a video tutorial series to walk you through, step by step, on how to make simple beats all the way through advanced user features.  So learning the program couldn’t be easier!  These videos are even great for users familiar with similar style applications because it tells you shortcuts and secrets to make using the program easier.

Honestly, I haven’t seen an beat sequencing application as thoroughly put together as DUBturbo.  It really does have it all and it makes putting together beats from any genre easy and fun.

Ease of Use:  9/10

Quality of Application: 9/10

Features: 10/10

Overall Value: 9.5/10

This really is the cream of the crop application.

Finding funding for drug and alcohol rehab

Today more and more men and women are falling prey to drug and alcohol addiction. Broken family ties, loneliness and stress are forcing more and more people of all ages, sex and social strata to fall victim to drug or alcohol dependency. More worrying still is the fact that the mean age of the victims is falling rapidly with teens and preteens forming an increasingly large percentage of the victim population.

Fortunately, these days there are several alcohol and drug rehab programs that can help victims of drug and alcohol dependency break free of their harmful addiction. These programs are highly sophisticated and you can now find drug and alcohol rehab programs to fit every kind of addiction as well as treatment needs.

Nevertheless, the de-addiction and rehab programs tend to be quite expensive and friends and families of victims are often not able to afford the kind of alcohol and drug rehab that will best help their loved ones. This is why it is important to know about the various kinds of subsidies and aid programs available to fund the de-addiction and rehab treatments.

Government Anti-drug programs

The government has started several initiatives, both local as well as federal, to combat the spread of drugs and alcohol addiction. One of the best ways to find out about these programs is to call your local drug or alcohol dependency helpline and ask about suitable funding programs. Be sure to mention any special category that might help you get better aid (single motherhood for example). You can also consult your local anti-drug and alcohol NGO organizations about potential funding sources.

However, before you can apply for these programs, you will need to have the appropriate paperwork completed. The staff of the helpline or local ant-addiction organizations can help with these.

Church funding for drug rehab

Many religious organizations and churches also offer funding for de-addiction and rehabilitation programs. You can always visit your pastor or the head of the local branch of your congregation to ask about specific programs that are available.

Even if there are no specific programs as such, most congregations may be able to support your monetarily or otherwise with the support of the members.

Last but not the least, there are several loan programs that are specifically aimed at funding medical expenses. Look for one that covers de-addiction treatment for manageable credit advances.

We look forward to meeting you and helping you achieve your goals regarding getting and staying sober. We hope you will enjoy reading some of our thoughts on treatment and recovery in our drug rehab and alcohol rehab blog.

Treatment Resources For Outpatient Drug Rehab

It is imperative that patients in outpatient drug rehab programs establish goals of being able to enjoy life without using the drugs of abuse or alcohol they have come to rely on to function as normal. There are traditionally three phases of addiction treatment at outpatient drug rehab programs: detoxification, rehabilitation and continuing long term care. Every outpatient program follows a unique curriculum for treating patients, but they all share the common goal of providing users with the tools they need to break free of their addiction, ultimately improving all aspects of their lives. Throughout all three of these phases, online resources play a vital role in providing the needed support for patients that can mean the difference between long term success and failure in their efforts to become free of drugs of abuse or alcohol.

The Internet provides many excellent online resources for people who are seeking recovery from addiction and their families, with more being added on a consistent basis. For those who are struggling with alcohol addiction, there are places to turn for information regarding the disease with contact information and links to websites featuring educational resources about recovery. There are also links to many online resources that will assist with tracking a persons progress of recovery, there are provider locators that will connect with health care professionals in various specialties, and users will also find hundreds of videos and lectures about research and treatment of both inpatient programs and outpatient drug rehab. While some websites require no membership or logging on in order to access information, there are others that only take a minute or two to sign up for access.

In addition to general reference sites and social media websites, there are also many excellent websites dedicated to the particulars of outpatient drug rehab, such as the pharmaceuticals that are routinely used during treatment. At these websites, patients, family members and friends are able to communicate with others who have experience with certain medications, and they can also research those products as well.

On any given day, there are millions of Americans who battle alcohol addiction. Thanks to the Internet, awareness and assistance are becoming more widespread, bringing this disease to light. Some of the most excellent online resources for those who are battling addiction are social media websites that help people maintain their recovery and compulsive behaviors. These provide easy access to experts, resources, and the recovery community all of which prove to be essential in a users success in breaking free of their addiction. In addition, these online social media sites are important resources that include monthly book clubs, secure places for online personal journaling and countless other recovery support resources that support and enhance the entire outpatient drug rehab experience.

Parents Nurturing Themselves, Helps Prevent Burnout and Child Abuse; April is Child Abuse Prevention Month

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) March 25, 2006

Approximately 15 million children, ages 9 to 17 in the United States have a serious mental or addictive disorder, but their parents are largely forsaken by the nations mental health system. One woman is determined to help those stressed-out parents find inner peace.

We took our adopted son to 22 different mental health care professionals over 11 years before he was finally diagnosed and treated for Reactive Attachment Disorder, which was tearing our family apart, says Janet Alston Jackson, who is now teaching parents how to manage their anger and frustrations. Jackson says her work is solely about supporting the parent, and not how to raise their children which she leaves to child experts.

Jackson and her husband Walter, are like many parents of children with special needs, who have traveled for miles to get help, and waited years searching for the right doctor, before they ultimately found help in Texas. Many dont find help especially in rural communities. Millions of parents struggle with their childs behavioral and health problems feeling isolated and hopeless.

Good parents are burned out and have to nurture themselves as they travel this discouraging and scary mental health maze, says Jackson author of A Cry for Light: A Journey into Love, whose memoir spotlights a growing problem. Child Psychiatry doctors is one of the most severe labor shortages among all medical specialties. Every child psychiatrist in the country has a waiting list, and the widening gap between the number of doctors and the needs of patients has become the priority of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Parents have to find ways to nurture themselves and find that inner peace while trying to deal with their children because it can be years before they find help, says Jackson, a former court appointed child advocate for the Los Angeles Childrens Superior Court. Jackson says she saw too many good parents lose custody of their children over stress related incidents. Jackson found ways to keep herself balanced and calm even though her son was becoming violent and she feared for her other two childrens safety.

The mother of three who is a behavioral consultant, owns Self Awareness Trainings with her husband. The couple who have been giving workshops since 1993 to teachers, parents, prison management and entertainment executives, teach their clients to live in the moment, the non-religious technique of living mindfully to reduce stress.

Our new workshops are for parents who have tried everything for their children, and still have not found the help or results, says Jackson. They are not for people looking for an excuse to skirt their responsibilities as parents, and are selfishly satisfying their own needs while neglecting their child. They are for parents who are exhausted from trying everything to help their child, and are on the edge of a breakdown because they dont see a light at the end of the tunnel. When these parents learn how to stay calm and balanced by living in the moment, they can tap into their inner wisdom and strength to direct them to help their child. They will become better, more patient parents.

The Jacksons upcoming book, Nurturing Myself: The Inner Peace Survival Guide for Parents and Child Professionals, will be published in the fall of 2006.

TEN PRACTICAL TIPS FOR BUSY PARENTS TO NURTURE AND CALM THEMSELVES

By: Janet Alston Jackson

1. Deep Listening, without judgment or analyzing helps focus and calm the mind. When feeling out of control, listen deeply to the sounds around you. If you are in your car, listen to the motor and to other passing cars. Deep listening takes you out of the worry and the fear, and immediately calms the mind. Use the every day sounds around you to keep balanced such as the washing machine, the dishwasher, or simply the running water in the sink.

2. Walking meditation to reduce anger . Count your steps walking around your home, doing errands to calm yourself. Count one through twenty, then start over. Or count how many steps to each breath.

3. Get up half an hour before the child, and sit and focus on your breathing to prepare you to deal with your upcoming tasks and the children. Count your breaths to stay focused: Breathing in One, Breathing Out One. Breathing in Two, breathing out two. When you get to ten, start over again.

4. At Work: Take advantage of lunchtime as alone time. Sit in your car and listen to self help tapes, or relaxing music instead of commiserating with gripping co-workers about the job. Or walk during the lunch hour to release stress and keep fit. Take your iPod.

5. Burn incense, and keep relaxing music on around the house to set a relaxing tone for the family.

6. Exercise. Steal any time you can from your busy schedule to exercise to reduce stress.

7. Read self-help and spiritual books that inspire you. Carry the book everywhere to lift you.

8. The car can be a time to communicate with a child, but also a hotbed for sibling arguments. Train your child to have car quiet time to decompress from rushing to get somewhere. Tell them its quiet time until we get to the store. (Dont use this for the entire outingjust for a ten minute destination, or less depending on the childs age. Talk on the way home.) Children tell parents about their day when they first see them after school. Dont use this as quiet time.

9. Tune into your thoughts and feelings without judgment. Just be aware of the sensations in your body, and the thoughts you are telling yourself without analyzing. Accept them all.

10. Connect with nature as often as possible to reenergize yourself. Garden, or take a walk in the park.

Happiness Therapy

I have had enough life experience to be able to know that happiness is a state of mind rather than what you get when you have reached a certain plateau in life. Happiness is not defined by how much ‘stuff’ we have – though this brings pleasant experiences, it is not the sum total of ‘real happiness’.

Happiness is a state of mind. A place we choose to be at or not. Money buys comforts, wonderful experiences, but money does not buy happiness as this is clearly something that comes from within. We are either happy or not.

We musn’t confuse gratifying the ego with things outside of us to create our ‘happiness’. We have all been in that place where we have a new car, new relationship, holiday, , house, jewellery, clothes, and after a while the joy of this new object has dissipated to boredom. This is the ego’s way of saying ” I need something new to entertain me and make me feel better”.

Happiness comes from a place deep inside that permeate your entire being, radiates and extends outward and touches the people around you. True lasting happiness comes from within.

To say that there is a single key element to happiness is incorrect. And for everyone what specifically makes you or causes you to be happy is different. For some it may be to simplify your life and de clutter it of things that are just dragging you down. For some it may be to cut down on spending so you feel like you have more money, thus reducing any stress towards financial issues.

Others may just want to work on thinking and speaking more positively, and then there are those who feel that happiness stems from meditating, getting into a relaxed state regularly. There are numerous ways we can reach this space we call happiness.

When you find yourself in a place where you don’t feel happy do something to make yourself feel happy.

Do simple things like meditating, reading, exercising, or just doing something that brings you much joy and fulfillment. For as long as you stay in a state of unhappiness you will continue to attract more of it. This is the law of attraction in action.

The more miserable you are, the more you dwell on whatever circumstances or situation that you ‘think’ is causing your unhappiness, then the more of the same stuff will show up in your life. Our conditioning has been such from childhood that happiness is something that ‘others’ provide for us. How many relationships suffer because they are dependent on the other person to ‘make then happy’?

How often do you hear others say that this person or that person, or this situation or that situation is directly responsible for their unhappiness?

We place an enormous emphasis on happiness being something that is beyond our reach or ‘out there somewhere’ outside of us.

I found myself in a hospital for many weeks after a serious breakdown some 15 years ago and in my determined effort to change my life, I began my own form of ‘happiness therapy’. I would get up from my bed quite late in the evening, take long baths in the patient bathroom with lavender and bubble bath. Go into the kitchen and make myself my favourite food ( Vegemite sandwich of course), ask the theatre nurses who weren’t busy to take me for a ride on the operating theatre gurneys around the building.

I needed to find ways to create my happiness from a hospital bed. And I did. I just wanted to be happy again and I intuitively knew that this was not going to come from outside of ME.

Begin to find simple things you can do to bring laughter and happiness into your world. As you do, more happiness comes your way without a great deal of effort and you begin to attract into your life more joy, more fulfillment and so much more happiness that you imagined possible.

Nancy Wylde is an Author on empowering women through the Law of Attraction and associated tools. In her latest book Ticket To Freedom – A Self-Empowerment Guide For Women, Nancy Wylde outlines the steps necessary to recognize unconscious opinions and beliefs that we hold about ourselves and in so doing, transform and empower our lives. Reach your potential through your own inner strength. Tap into the creative genius that is within you and live the rich life you deserve.

Relationships And Recovery From Addiction

Relationships in recovery can be a tricky thing. In fact, most people probably don’t realize it, but relationships are the number one problem when it comes to relapse. Nothing else has the same amount of power to create such turmoil in our lives.
Think about it your life is made up of nothing but relationships. If you were living on a deserted island, with no one else, your life would be very different indeed. At the very least, your level of stress would certainly be lower. This points out the true nature of relationships in our recovery they are both a blessing and a curse. They bring us great joy, but they can also cause us a lot of grief. As such, they must be handled with care and approached in an intelligent way.
There are essentially 3 types of relationships in your life one with yourself, one with your higher power, and one with a significant other. There are also dozens of other relationships in your life, such as with your coworkers or your friends, but those are the 3 big ones. Let’s take a look at them in more detail.
Relationship with yourself – This is the first relationship that you must cultivate and repair in early recovery, because it forms the basis for all other relationships. For most recovering addicts and alcoholics, this means forgiving yourself. What does this mean It means that you have to let go of all of the emotional baggage that you are carrying around with you and give yourself a break. Now that you’re in recovery you’re trying to do something different. You need to forgive yourself and allow yourself to live again.
Relationship with your higher power – Again, most addicts and alcoholics in early recovery need to do some work in this area. When we first get clean and sober, we are usually far removed from our connection with our higher power because we’ve been essentially ignoring God for so long. Getting back in touch with our spiritual side is critical for success in early recovery. There is a hierarchy here with relationship building. Start out by connecting with yourself and with your higher power, and this will lead to better relationships with others. As you get more in tune with your own spiritual side, your ability to connect and empathize with others will increase.
Relationship with your significant other – This can only flourish if you have nailed the other two relationships. In early recovery, there is a danger in rushing out and finding a new relationship with a significant other. The reason this is so dangerous is because a new relationship will create a temporary and false spiritual connection, one that replaces any need to cultivate and nurture the other two relationships (with yourself and with your higher power). Those other two relationships are the ones that will keep you clean and sober, not the relationship with a significant other. But there is a strong tendency to use a new relationship as a recovery strategy without even realizing it, and many newcomers relapse because of this.
Remember that relationships are a double-edged sword. They can bring us great joy, but at the same time, they can be extremely dangerous for the newcomer.
