Scrapbooking is a wonderful hobby and has grown incredibly in the last few years. So much so that there would be very few shopping malls and areas where there isn’t, either a dedicated scrapbook shop or a craft shop catering to the pastime.

Consequently, you can be faced with a baffling array of materials aimed at scrapbooking which can result in you spending a lot more than you need to and ending up with a lot of stuff you may never use.

If you have the urge to give scrapbooking a go but weren’t sure where to start then this article will show you an all in one solution that will get you off and running quickly.

Scrapbooking kits are a great way to get started. A well chosen kit will contain everything you need to put together a complete scrapbook. They are a great introduction to this pastime as they are essentially a collection of scrapbooking samples. By that I mean they contain all the various elements that go into making a scrapbook and as such introduce you to the various components involved. I don’t mean to imply that they are samples in the way that they are insufficient to complete the project rather that the whole kit is a way of sampling the hobby of scrapbooking.

By starting off with a kit you can short cut the design and ideas process. There are general kits which are basically a collection of co-ordinated materials accompanied by instructions with page and layout ideas to help you on your way. There are also themed kits which also contain all the co-ordinated materials but are, obviously focussed on a specific theme such as Bratz, Travel, Disney, Babies, Sport and so on.

Here is a list of the sort of items you could find within a kit.

 A scrapbook or an album
 Papers (co-ordinated plain and/or patterned)
 Die cuts
 Stickers
 Ink and rubber stamp
 Any type of scissors(straight, scalloped)
 Punches
 Cardstocks
 Ruler
 Markers, pens and pencils
 Envelopes
 Adhesives
 Stencils
 Photos
 Various embellishments

You can see from the above list another reason why kits can be a good starting point as some of the items are re-usable and equip you for future scrapbooking projects. The scissors, punches, ruler, stencils and so on become part of your basic scrapbooking tool set. You will also find that you may well have some of the consummables left over as well.

Now kits aren’t only for beginners. Regular scrapbookers also find kits very convenient from the point of view that everything is available in one neat self contained package, all co-ordinated. Less time spent in preparation and more time spent getting on with it.

Just because you’ve bought a kit doesn’t mean you are restricted to only what is in there. The kit can be complete within itself but there is absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t expand upon the theme of the kit and add your own touches to it. So, use the kit as a basis for inspiration and ideas.

I hope that I’ve managed to show you the advantages of using a scrapbooking kit for your next project. They really are a very convenient way of getting all your scrapbooking supplies in one convenient package.
